Lot 175:
Description
A ceremonial horn featuring a polished natural horn body with silver-plated and brass mounts. The piece is fitted with a flared bell rim with a scalloped edge and a dark, turned mouthpiece, likely composed of wood or horn. The body is decorated with three applied metal plaques depicting a crouching archer, a central heart, and a standing stag, motifs characteristic of the Ancient Order of Foresters friendly society. Two metal bands with integrated suspension loops are positioned along the length of the horn. The horn body exhibits a natural colour transition from dark brown to cream. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are present on the mounts.
Condition report:
Overall good condition with signs of age and use. The silver-plated mounts show tarnishing and some surface oxidation. The horn body displays light surface wear and natural variations. Minor surface abrasions are present on the mouthpiece.
