Lot 177:
Description
A British Army officer’s brown leather belt of General Service pattern, typically dating from the early to mid-20th century. The belt is constructed from heavy-gauge brown leather and features a two-piece circular interlocking brass locket buckle. The central boss of the buckle displays a raised design of a lion statant gardant atop a Tudor crown, identifying the piece as belonging to the period between 1901 and 1952. The integrated circlet is embossed with the royal motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. The belt includes an attached semi-circular leather frog with a heavy brass hook designed for the suspension of a sword scabbard. No maker’s marks or military acceptance stamps are visible.
Width: approximately 5 cm.
Condition report:
The belt is in good service-used condition. The leather remains supple but shows signs of age and wear, including surface scuffing, minor compression marks, and fine cracking to the interior finish. The buckle appears to be missing its original outer ring but the central circular component remains intact. The brass components exhibit an uncleaned dark patina throughout.
