Lot 182:
Description
A traditional early 20th-century equestrian hunting flask, also known as a saddle flask, of the type commonly associated with British field sports. The set comprises a tapered glass flask partially encased within a protective, hand-stitched leather sleeve. The flask is fitted with a silver-toned metal base cap and a captive hinged screw-top cap with a knurled edge for grip. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the metal components. The flask is housed in its original heavy-gauge brown leather holster, featuring a hinged lid secured by a brass stud and a wide leather attachment strap with a metal buckle for fastening to a saddle. The leather displays a textured grain characteristic of pigskin. A faint, gold-coloured mark is present on the broad leather strap, though it is too heavily worn to decipher any specific characters or names.
Condition report:
The item is in a condition commensurate with significant age and regular field use. The leather components exhibit surface wear, scuffing, darkening, and minor cracking, particularly along the flexible straps and lid hinge. The hand-stitching appears to be largely intact. Metal components show surface scratches and tarnish throughout but remain functional. The captive hinge and screw top are in working order.
