Description
A substantial cast brass figure depicting the seated Budai, commonly known as the Laughing Buddha. The figure is shown with a jovial expression, elongated earlobes, and a prominent bare abdomen. He holds a gold ingot, known as a yuanbao, in his right hand, while a large, tied hempen sack rests beside his right leg. The piece is finished with a deep brown patinated surface, showing areas of natural greenish oxidisation within the folds of the robes and recessed details. The construction indicates a hollow-cast copper alloy consistent with modern decorative items. No maker’s marks or reign marks are visible on the exterior surfaces.

Condition report:
The figure is in good overall condition with some superficial scratches and minor casting pits present to the surface. The patina shows expected variations in tone and some light wear consistent with age and display.
