Lot 20:
Description
This lot comprises a collection of commemorative medals, decorative items, and personal accessories. Included is a large circular silver-tone presentation medal dated 2004, inscribed on the reverse Presented to Jack Goldhill, featuring a central rounded triangular motif with the letters A, R, F, and S, suspended from a wide red ribbon. Two square white-metal plaques are attached to red and white striped ribbons, bearing the German inscription Verband der Querschnittgelähmten Deutschlands. A bronze-tone commemorative medal is housed in a red presentation box marked for Alex Kirkwood and Son, Medallists, Edinburgh. The decorative items include a group of cloisonné and enamel miniatures comprising a large snail with scrollwork decoration and two tortoises, alongside a heart-shaped blue cloisonné trinket box with floral motifs. There are multiple lidded trinket boxes, including a green enamel egg with gold-tone filigree and inset faux stones in the Fabergé style, and two white porcelain examples with gold-tone rims. Personal accessories feature two metal hip flasks, one with a ribbed finish, and a magnifying glass with a cream-coloured handle. Miscellaneous items include a miniature metal model of the Burj Khalifa, a small arched framed miniature icon depicting a Madonna and Child, and a frosted stone or glass chalice.
Condition report:
The collection is generally in good condition. The medals and plaques show light surface wear and minor tarnishing consistent with age. Ribbons are intact with minor fraying at the edges. The cloisonné and enamel pieces are well-preserved with no visible loss to the enamel. The green enamel egg appears to be missing several small inset stones. The metal flasks show surface scuffing and light scratches. The Kirkwood presentation box is in good structural condition with minor exterior wear.
