Description
A collection of brass-cased carriage and carriage-style mantel clocks of various manufacture. The group includes a corniche-cased carriage clock with a polished brass frame, five bevelled glass panels, and a swing carrying handle; it features a white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers and moon hands, housing a mechanical movement with a striking mechanism on a gong. Also included is a rectangular brass carriage clock, the dial signed Jean Renet, with black Roman numerals and spade hands. A third carriage clock features a rectangular brass case with fluted corner pillars and a white dial signed Garrard and Co. Ltd. 112 Regent St. W.I., with black Roman numerals and spade hands. The collection is completed by a carriage-style clock in a brass case with decorative finials and a fixed handle, the silvered dial signed Estima and Quartz, powered by a battery-operated movement.
Condition report:
The brass cases show varying degrees of surface tarnishing, oxidation, and wear commensurate with age and handling. The glass panels appear intact but would benefit from cleaning. The working order of the mechanical and quartz movements has not been tested. No winding keys are present with the lot.
