Description
An assortment of metalware items comprising various decorative and functional objects. Included in the collection is a brass-cased prismatic style folding compass with an octagonal body. The hinged lid opens to reveal an internal mirror with a central sighting line, while the compass housing includes a degree-marked dial and a small spirit level containing a yellow-green liquid. The lot also features a cast metal bust with a silver-toned finish depicting the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes with a ruff collar and pointed beard, with the name Cervantes incised into the base. A second silver-toned cast metal bust depicts a young man and woman in a romantic pose. Additionally, the lot contains an oval brass storage box with a hinged lid, a top carry handle, and a front latch, alongside a brass oil filler or workshop lamp of conical form featuring a narrow neck with a wick and a simple loop side handle.
Condition report:
The items show expected surface wear, tarnish, and patination consistent with age and use. The brass compass exhibits general surface tarnish and minor scratches. The silver-toned Cervantes bust shows surface oxidation and wear to the finish, particularly around the textured areas. The oval brass box has a dark, aged patina on the exterior with a brighter, polished interior. The oil filler lamp displays significant surface patination and oxidation, with a specific worn area on the front of the body where a label may have been previously attached. The bust of the couple is in overall good condition with minor surface tarnish.
