Description
An assortment of decorative brass items of varying forms and functions, typical of mid-20th-century domestic ornaments. The collection includes an ornate oval filigree basket with twin scrolling handles and intricate pierced casting depicting floral and foliate motifs in a Rococo-revival style. Also present is a slender ewer with a flared spout and arched handle, a hinged heart-shaped box, a cast horse figurine in a prancing pose, and a hinged container cast in the likeness of a large walnut. The group is completed by a small nautical-style compass in a circular case with a hinged lid, a rounded fish figurine, an oversized ornamental key, and a pair of long serving tongs with forked tips and a dark-coloured central grip. The objects are produced through a combination of casting and wrought techniques. No maker’s marks or hallmarks were identified upon inspection of the items.
Condition report:
The collection presents in varied condition with a natural patina throughout. Several pieces, notably the ewer and the exterior of the heart box, show significant tarnishing and darkening of the metal. Other items, such as the filigree basket and the interior of the heart box, retain a brighter, more polished appearance. There is surface wear, minor scratches, and oxidation consistent with age and domestic use. No major structural defects, breaks, or repairs are noted.
