Description
A collection of decorative wooden boxes featuring a 19th-century rectangular box finished in flame mahogany veneer with boxwood stringing, a brass swing handle to the lid, and a diamond-shaped bone escutcheon. The interior of this box contains a red fabric lining to the lid and an open main compartment. The collection also includes a rectangular box with brass floral and geometric inlay, a dome-top trunk-style box accented with embossed white metal bands featuring scrolling foliate patterns, and an octagonal box with a central brass motif to the lid. The pieces are constructed from various hardwoods including mahogany and secondary timbers.
Condition report:
The items exhibit age-related wear including surface scratches, minor indentations, and areas of veneer loss. The red fabric lining in the largest box shows fading and signs of wear. The interior of the mahogany box appears to be missing original fitted compartments. Tarnish and wear are visible on the metal inlays and hardware across the collection.
