Description
A wall-mounted tobacco pipe rack and a collection of several smoking pipes. The rack is constructed from a rough-hewn wooden board and features brass-toned metal clips for securing the pipes. A vertical brass plaque is attached to the front, featuring the Dutch inscription ‘t Is geen man. Die niet rooken kan. which translates to He is no man who cannot smoke. The rack is fitted with two metal keyhole brackets on the reverse for wall mounting purposes. The collection of pipes includes various forms, including straight and curved stems. Materials comprise wood, likely briar, and examples featuring metal stems. The wooden pipes exhibit a variety of finishes, including a glossy deep red, a smooth natural grain, and a textured sandblasted surface. Several pipes feature metal bands or ferrules.
Condition report:
The wooden rack shows general surface wear, including minor scuffs and age-related marks. The brass-toned clips and plaque display signs of oxidation and tarnishing. The pipes show visible signs of previous use, with charred interiors to the bowls and surface wear to the stems and mouthpieces. Some oxidation is present on the metal components of the pipes.
