Lot 7:
Description
This lot comprises two vintage whistles of differing styles and functions. The first is a boatswain’s call, or ‘bosun’s pipe’, manufactured from a polished silver-toned metal, likely nickel plating. It features a traditional curved mouthpiece, flat keel, and spherical buoy, and is suspended from a fine curb-link chain. The keel is engraved with the name ‘April Rose’ in cursive script. The second item is a tubular service-style whistle constructed from brass and plated metal. The barrel is embossed with a fleur-de-lis emblem above the initials ‘B’ and ‘P’, identifying it as a whistle associated with the Boy Scouts movement and its founder, Robert Baden-Powell. It features a top lanyard ring.
Condition report:
The boatswain\'s call is in good condition with a bright finish and minor surface scratching consistent with age. The scout-style whistle shows significant wear, including widespread tarnish, surface pitting, and areas of oxidation.
