Description
A collection of hand-painted and lacquered wooden nesting dolls, known as matryoshka. The lot comprises two distinct sets executed in traditional Russian folk art styles. The first set features a black ground decorated with architectural scenes including churches with onion domes and figures in folk costume, accented with metallic gold-toned paint and glitter. The second set displays a red and blue colour palette with pink rose floral patterns and faces characterised by blue eyes and freckles. Both sets are finished with a high-gloss protective lacquer. No maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on the exterior or bases of the items.
Largest dolls height: Approximately 13 cm to 16 cm.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good condition. Minor surface wear and faint scratches to the lacquered finish are consistent with age and handling. There are no significant chips, cracks, or evident repairs to the wooden structures. Both sets appear to be complete as displayed.
