Description
A rectangular wooden jewellery box in the Chinese Export style, constructed from a reddish-toned hardwood with decorative brass-toned hardware. The box features ornate brass corner protectors and a traditional ruyi or cloud-shaped latch assembly with a pin closure. The lid is inset with a circular brass medallion featuring the incised Chinese character 福 (Fú), translating to good fortune or blessings. The interior is lined throughout with red floral patterned damask fabric and comprises an upper compartment and a single pull-out lower drawer fitted with a brass bail handle. The box contains an assortment of costume jewellery, including multi-strand necklaces of faux pearls and faceted black glass or plastic beads, items of green beaded jewellery, and various gold-tone and silver-tone metal chains. Also included is a selection of earrings, notably a pair of large rhinestone-set drops and faux pearl studs, as well as several metal medallion-style charms.
Condition report:
The box is in good structural condition with some light surface wear, minor scratches to the wood, and tarnishing to the brass-toned metal components consistent with age and use. The fabric lining remains largely intact. The jewellery is sold as a mixed lot; individual pieces show varying degrees of wear and tangling, with some potential missing stones or components typical of bulk costume jewellery.
