Description
A collection of vintage table lighters featuring bases in a variety of materials and styles. The assortment includes several examples with bases crafted from carved and polished stone, including striped and mottled green onyx. One lighter features a blue Jasperware-style ceramic base with white sprigged decoration depicting a coat of arms above a banner inscribed with the word LONDON. Another example has a faceted dark glass or crystal base with gilt foliate patterns, while another is housed in a silver-toned metal base with an embossed gadrooned design. The mechanical lighter inserts are constructed from gold-toned and silver-toned metal; one such silver-toned insert is incised with the name RONSON. The collection encompasses designs ranging from traditional Victorian-inspired forms to more geometric Art Deco and mid-century modern styles.
Condition report:
The collection generally appears to be in good vintage condition. Visible wear includes surface scratches to the stone bases, minor oxidation and pitting to the metal inserts and bases, and some fading to the gilt decoration on the glass example. The mechanical components have not been tested for functionality.
