Description
This lot comprises two mid-20th century black woollen felt formal hats manufactured for the English market. The first item is a classic bowler hat with a rounded crown and a curved, bound-edge brim, adorned with a matching black grosgrain ribbon band and bow. The interior is lined with orange satin fabric featuring a gold-stamped crest consisting of a crown above a circular emblem. The tan leather sweatband is stamped in gold with the text Real Leather and English Made. The second item is a formal top hat with a flat crown and curled brim, also finished with a black grosgrain ribbon. The interior contains a pink satin lining with a printed Major Wear label depicting two lions rampant flanking a yellow shield with a top hat icon. The label specifies 100% WOOL HAND MADE and MADE FOR ENGLAND. Both hats feature internal sweatbands.
Condition report:
The bowler hat shows visible fraying and wear to the outer edge of the brim and has surface lint. The top hat displays minor surface dust and light wear consistent with its age and use. The internal linings and sweatbands of both hats remain intact.
