Lot 93:
Description
A collection of two fountain pens. The first is a Pelikan Souverän M400 piston-fill fountain pen. It features a black high-grade resin barrel and cap with gold-plated furniture and a transparent green-tinted ink viewing window. The pen is fitted with a two-tone 14 carat gold nib, stamped with the Pelikan logo, 14C-585, and the letter B indicating a broad point. The second is an early 20th-century lever-fill fountain pen, in the style of American makers such as Waterman or Wahl-Eversharp. It features a gold-filled metal overlay with a chased repoussé floral and scrollwork design over a black hard rubber body. The silver-toned metal nib features a heart-shaped breather hole and is marked with partially illegible characters including 14C and Made In. The filling system consists of a gold-toned lever located on the side of the barrel.
Condition report:
The Pelikan pen is in good used condition with light surface scratches and micro-wear consistent with regular use; the piston mechanism is untested but appears intact. The gold-filled overlay pen is in fair to good condition for its age, showing significant brassing and wear to the gold-filled finish, particularly on the grip section and the exposed hard rubber ends. The nib on the overlay pen shows signs of heavy use and oxidation.
