Description
A collection of various decorative and specialty boxes, primarily from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The group includes a Victorian-style leather-clad jewellery box with ornate metal hardware and a tufted two-tone satin-lined interior; a square wooden box with intricate geometric parquetry and an architectural base featuring Moorish-style arches in the style of the Alhambra Palace, opening to a red-lined interior; a long rectangular black-lacquered box with a lid decorated with a scene of cherubs in a landscape, in the style of Willan F; a Middle Eastern khatam marquetry box with fine geometric bone and wood inlay and a partitioned red velvet interior; and a miniature wooden cabinet box with painted and inlaid elephant motifs, opening to reveal multiple small drawers. Construction materials include wood, leather, various textile linings, and bone or wood inlays.

Leather-clad box width: approx. 9 inches (23 cm).
Condition report:
Items show various degrees of age-related wear. The leather-clad box exhibits surface scuffing and wear to the edges. The marquetry boxes show minor instances of loss to the inlay. Textile linings show signs of fading and light staining consistent with age and use. Metal hardware displays tarnish and oxidation. The black-lacquered box has minor surface scratches to the lid.
