Description
This diverse assortment of collectibles encompasses technical instruments, decorative metalware, and various curios. The collection features a cased drafting instrument set comprising brass and steel compasses, dividers, and ruling pens housed in a velvet-lined folding case. A pair of forged steel or iron spring-joint calipers with a threaded adjustment screw is also present. Decorative items include an inscribed brass and dark wood wall plaque featuring the Dutch phrase Zooals het pijpke thuis smaakt, Smaakt het nergens! (As the pipe tastes at home, it tastes nowhere else!). The lot includes a group of cast white metal figures including three running greyhounds, several crucifixes, and a small reclining female figure. A silver-plated gallery basket with a pierced decorative border and swinging handle is fitted with a blue glass or plastic liner. Additional metalware includes a cast bottle opener with a lion-head handle and two brass matchbox or lighter sleeves. Also included is a mid-20th-century green dressing case containing fitted glass jars, a wooden box with geometric khatam style inlay, a large polished natural horn spoon, a glass scent bottle with white metal mounts, and a dark-carved wood figurine of a seated figure. A cloth-bound German book titled Neue allerliebste MARCHEN and a circular metal sign complete the group.
Condition report:
Items generally show signs of age-appropriate wear. The drafting set exhibits oxidation to the steel components and wear to the case. The marquetry box shows minor losses to the inlay. Metal items show varying degrees of tarnishing and patina. The vanity case mirror shows signs of desilvering. General surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use.
