Lot 143:
Description
A small Chinese bronze incense burner (censer) of compressed globular bombe form, cast from a copper alloy. The vessel features a slightly flared rim and is flanked by two upright, stylized loop gui handles. The exterior is finished with a smooth, warm chestnut-brown patina showing some tonal variation from handling. The interior displays signs of historical use with residue and minor green verdigris oxidation. The underside of the base features a recessed square seal mark containing two incised characters reading Xuande (宣德). This is an apocryphal mark referencing the Ming Dynasty Xuande Emperor (r. 1426-1435), indicating the piece was likely produced in the late 19th to early 20th century in the Ming style.
Width (including handles): 10 cm
Height: 5 cm.
Condition report:
The censer is in good condition overall, commensurate with age and use. There are minor surface pits and small nicks to the body. The patina shows light wear on the handles and the foot rim. The interior contains historical oxidation and charring.
