Lot 142:
Description
A stylized decorative figurine of an owl in a standing position, reflecting mid-20th-century artisanal design frequently associated with Chinese or Himalayan export ware. The body is constructed from a gold-toned metal, possibly brass or silver-gilt, and is densely inset with numerous small, round turquoise-coloured cabochon stones. The wings and tail sections are highlighted with inset rectangular coral-red stones. The facial area features intricate gold-toned wirework filigree framing two large inset eyes composed of white and black material, likely glass or enamel. The figurine is further detailed with pointed ear tufts, a smooth tapering beak, and two three-toed feet. There are no visible maker marks or signatures on the exterior surfaces.
Height: Approximately 8.5 cm.
Condition report:
The figurine is in generally good condition with an attractive aged patina to the metal surfaces. There is evidence of minor wear consistent with age, including a few small areas on the lower right chest where stones appear to be missing or adhesive has discoloured. The wirework filigree and inset eyes remain intact.
