Lot 149:
Description
This vintage lever-action nutcracker is designed in the Mid-Century Modern Scandinavian style, often associated with Swedish decorative arts from the 1950s and 1960s. The piece is constructed with two curved hardwood handles, identified as teak, which are joined at the pivot by a triangular brass hinge plate secured with three pins. The interior faces of the handles are fitted with inset, serrated brass plates designed to grip and crush nut shells. The wood features a polished medium-brown finish, and the brass components show a light natural patina. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the object.
Length: 11.5 inches.
Condition report:
The nutcracker is in good vintage condition. The wooden handles show minor surface abrasions and light scratches consistent with age and moderate use. The brass hinge and gripping plates are secure and show a light patina with minor surface wear, but no significant damage or structural issues are present. The lever mechanism remains fully functional.
