Lot 153:
Description
A traditional Hanukkah menorah, or Hanukkiah, manufactured from cast brass. The item features eight curved arms arranged in a symmetrical tier, each terminating in a tulip-shaped candle cup. The central shamash, or helper light, is positioned at the top of a central baluster-form stem and is surmounted by a cast Star of David (Magen David) finial. The stem is supported by a substantial, tiered octagonal base, which is decorated with repeating embossed foliate and scroll-patterned bands. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the piece.
Height: 30 cm
Width: 23 cm.
Condition report:
The menorah is in good vintage condition. The brass exhibits a natural aged patina with visible tarnish and areas of green oxidation (verdigris) in the recesses of the base and cups. There is minor misalignment of the candle cups consistent with the casting and assembly process. Residual candle wax is present in the cups.
