Description
This lot features a vintage portable transistor radio, model TR-8, manufactured by the Standard Radio Corp. of Japan. The unit is a dual-band receiver designed for Medium Wave (MW) and Short Wave (SW) reception. The radio is housed in a two-tone plastic cabinet in cream and black, featuring a black mesh speaker grille and brushed silver-tone metal trim. It is equipped with a horizontal analogue slide rule dial and an integrated telescopic aerial. The radio is accompanied by its original brown leather protective carrying case, which features an adjustable shoulder strap and is embossed with the manufacturer and model identification. Markings on the radio face include STANDARD 2 BAND. The tuning dial is marked with frequencies in kilocycles (x10KC) for the MW band and megacycles (MC) for the SW band. The leather case is embossed with STANDARD TR-8.
Condition report:
The radio cabinet is in good cosmetic condition, showing light surface wear and minor oxidation to the silver-tone metal trim. The telescopic aerial remains intact and extends fully. The brown leather carrying case shows significant signs of age and heavy use, including scuffing, surface cracking, and deterioration to the strap and stitching. This item is sold as a vintage collectable and has not been tested for functional operation.
