Lot 53:
Description
This is a contemporary nautical-style aneroid barometer manufactured for the British retailer Nauticalia as part of their Saloon range. The instrument is encased in a polished brass porthole-style housing, featuring a hinged front bezel secured by three swing bolts and a mounting ring at the top. The reverse is fitted with a solid brass backplate containing three mounting holes. The white dial is printed in black with dual scales for barometric pressure: an inner scale graduated in millibars from 940 to 1060 and an outer scale in inches of mercury from 28 to 31. The dial includes standard weather terminology such as STORMY, RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR, and VERY DRY, alongside instructional text. A central circular aperture provides a view of the internal brass movement. The barometer features a black indicator hand and a brass setting hand with a crescent moon tail.
Overall diameter: 33 cm (13 inches).
Condition report:
The barometer is in good overall cosmetic condition with a bright, polished finish to the brass case. The glass and dial are clear. The movement appears functional, but will require professional calibration to the local altitude for accuracy.
