Description
An assortment of decorative boxes and containers featuring various materials, styles, and decorative techniques. The group includes wooden examples showcasing marquetry, parquetry, and burl wood veneers, with pieces in the style of Sorrento-ware and straw-work. Several boxes feature hand-painted designs, including a Russian Palekh-style lacquer box depicting a traditional scene and a black lacquer box with Japanese-inspired motifs. A rectangular wooden box is decorated with shell inlay depicting figures in a boat, while another features intricate pierced fretwork. Metalware is represented by embossed white-metal containers, including one with a landscape scene on the lid, and a small circular gold-toned pillbox set with a faceted dark red stone. Other items include a box with a relief-applied three-masted sailing ship on a light blue ground, an elongated hand-painted case with pastoral scenes, and various storage boxes with inlaid geometric patterns.

Condition report:
The collection shows general age-related wear across all items. Visible scuffing, surface scratches, and minor losses are present on wooden veneers and lacquer finishes. Some oxidisation and tarnish are noted on the metal surfaces. Minor chips and nicks are evident to the edges of several wooden and lacquer boxes. All items exhibit signs of handling and use consistent with age.
