Description
A vintage hand-printed porcelain enamel sign manufactured by Dodo Designs (Mfrs) Ltd of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. The sign is of rectangular form with a decorative lobed top and bottom edge. The face features a yellow border enclosing an architectural design of a pediment and columns. The central text, printed in black and red on a white ground, is titled The Rules of This House: Pleasures & Pastimes. It lists various humorous prohibitions including: Do Not Swing from the Chandeliers, Jump out of Galleries, Lay hands on the Female Staff without Warning, Disturb Guests in the pursuit of their Natural Pleasures, Make Water other than in the Place provided, Throw any Drinking Vessel full or empty, Indulge in Political or Religious discussions, Beg, borrow from, or otherwise importune other Guests, Settle questions of Honour on the Premises, or Assault the Musicians. Additional text at the base warns against giving offence regarding the sanity or virility of elderly guests and advises against introducing ferocious animals or bellicose pranksters.
The reverse is finished in black enamel and bears white printed marks: MADE IN ENGLAND BY / DODO DESIGNS (MFRS) LTD / 8 LONSDALE GARDENS / ROYAL TUNBRIDGE WELLS / KENT. It also features a circular logo with a central dodo bird and the text DODO DESIGNS MANUFACTURERS LTD, followed by A GENUINE DODO / HAND PRINTED FINEST / PORCELAIN ENAMEL. The sign is pre-drilled with two mounting holes.

Condition report:
The sign is in good vintage condition. There is minor enamel loss with associated oxidation and surface rusting visible around the two mounting holes and at intervals along the outer edges. The reverse displays light surface scratching and minor spotting consistent with age and use.
