Description

A trio of decorative wood marquetry panels, likely of Italian origin from the mid-20th century and produced in the style of Sorrento craftsmanship. The panels consist of various natural and stained wood veneers inlaid to form figurative and architectural compositions. The subjects depicted are a man in period peasant costume reading a newspaper bearing the text IL TEMPO, a woman in traditional dress carrying a ceramic water vessel on her head, and an architectural study of a sunlit village street featuring stone arches. Each panel is finished with a high-gloss polish and is individually housed in a different style of wooden frame: one with a foliate gilt-effect inner border, one in a simple mahogany-toned wood, and the third in a dark wood frame with a fine gilt-line inlay. There are no signatures or maker marks visible on the face of the works.

Measurements:

Panel with male figure (frame): 43 cm x 30 cm

Panel with village scene (frame): 23 cm x 25.5 cm

Panel with female figure (frame): 24 cm x 18 cm.

Condition report:

The panels appear to be in good overall condition. The high-gloss lacquered surfaces exhibit some minor surface scuffing and fine scratches consistent with age. The wooden frames show light wear, with small chips and abrasions present on the edges and corners.
