Lot 107:
Description
A trio of decorative wall plaques featuring Australian Aboriginal motifs. The collection consists of two hand-carved wooden relief plaques and one smaller plaque with an applied three-dimensional figure. The largest item is a vertical rectangular wooden plaque depicting a standing male figure with a spear and a hunted animal slung over his shoulder. The second wooden item is circular and depicts a male figure in a dynamic pose holding a boomerang and a spear. Both wooden carvings are incised with the word AUSTRALIA at the upper edge and feature a hand-tooled, textured ground. The third item is a small rectangular plaque with a gold-toned finish, featuring an applied figure of a seated person playing a didgeridoo, finished with a dark, textured patina.
Vertical wooden plaque: approximately 37 cm (14.5 inches) high
Circular wooden plaque: approximately 18 cm (7 inches) diameter
Small plaque: approximately 10 cm (4 inches) wide.
Condition report:
All items exhibit signs of age-related wear. The wooden plaques show minor surface scratches, nicks to the edges, and dust accumulation in the carved recesses. The gold-toned plaque displays some surface rubbing and minor loss to the metallic finish. The applied figure on the small plaque appears secure.
