Description

An English vanity set attributed to Regent of London, dating to the mid-20th century. The collection comprises a boxed dressing table set and an accompanying oval vanity tray. Each component of the dressing table set is constructed with ornate gilt-toned filigree metal frames and handles, with reverse panels featuring floral petit point needlework motifs set behind transparent protective covers. The items are housed within a hinged presentation box featuring a mottled brown faux-tortoiseshell finish and a cream satin-lined interior. The separate oval vanity tray consists of a glass top over a lace and embroidered floral textile base, framed by a decorative pierced metal gallery with scrolled handles and small feet. A small metal plaque located on the inner rear rim of the presentation box is incised with the text MADE IN ENGLAND.

Presentation box: 27 cm wide

Vanity tray: 36 cm long.

Condition report:

The set displays signs of age and use. There is visible staining, foxing, and discolouration to the textile panels and the interior satin lining of the presentation box. General surface wear, oxidation, and minor pitting are present on the gilt metalwork. The faux-tortoiseshell box shows surface scuffs and wear to the edges.
