Description

This lot comprises an antique monocular compound microscope, a pair of adjustable workshop workstations, and a decorative pipe rest with an accompanying pipe. The microscope features a brass draw-tube and objective barrel, mounted on a green-enamelled cast-metal stand. It is designed with a tilting mechanism and a single circular sub-stage mirror, and is stored within a fitted mahogany case with internal compartments for accessories. The two workshop stands, commonly referred to as helping hands, are constructed with heavy black-painted cast-iron bases and nickel-plated articulated arms with magnifying lenses and spring-loaded clips. Included is a Black Forest style bear figure, used as a pipe stand, made from a composite material finished to resemble carved wood, along with a smoking pipe featuring a wooden bowl and dark stem.
Microscope case height: approximately 18 cm
Total width of display: approximately 68 cm.

Condition report:

The microscope shows a natural aged patina to the brasswork and minor enamel chipping to the stand; the mahogany case door is currently detached from its hinges. The workshop stands show surface oxidation to the metal components, while the magnifying lenses appear clear. The bear pipe stand is in good decorative condition with minor surface wear, and the pipe bowl shows charring from use.
