Description
An assortment of mid-to-late 20th-century correspondence and ephemera, primarily addressed to Mr. Richard Douro of the Yorkshire Post. The collection features several items of political and military provenance, including two typed letters signed (TLS) by Dwight D. Eisenhower on Walter Reed Hospital and DDE letterheads, dated 2nd December 1968 and 12th October 1967, which discuss the honouring of Lord Mountbatten. Also included is a TLS on Buckingham Palace stationery from Rear-Admiral Sir Christopher Bonham-Carter dated 5th July 1968. Parliamentary correspondence comprises letters on House of Commons stationery from Douglas Hurd (5th March 1979) and Denis Healey (2nd September 1980), as well as a letter from Edward Heath. Handwritten items include an autograph letter signed (ALS) by Ronald Storrs and a letter from Manor House, Alvediston dated 2nd April 1968. Further items consist of a TLS from Lionel Crossley on Commonwealth Press Union (CPU) letterhead dated 16th May 1969, documents from The English-Speaking Union of the United States, an engraved invitation from the Venezuelan Ambassador Felix Mendoza, and a document regarding the purchase and importation of a marmot fur coat from Swears & Wells Ltd. The papers represent standard sizes including quarto and A4.
Measurements: Approximately 254 x 203 mm and 210 x 297 mm.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good condition. Most documents exhibit horizontal mailing folds and light age-related toning or yellowing. Occasional minor creasing and staple holes are present to the corners. Ink signatures are clear and well-preserved.
