Lot 196:
Description
This assortment contains several walking canes and sticks of varying materials and designs. The primary piece is a walking cane featuring a polished burr wood handle, likely burr walnut, displaying characteristic knotted grain and a high-gloss finish. The handle is shaped into a crook with a small upturned scroll terminal and is joined to a long, straight shaft. The shaft exhibits a pale, mottled surface texture, which is characteristic of malacca or a similar natural cane material. The collection also includes a wooden stick with a decorative spirally-carved shaft and a dark leather-bound grip, a naturalistic stick with a knobby bark-like exterior, and a straight wooden cane with a metallic cap. No manufacturer’s marks, brand names, or hallmarks are visible on any of the items shown.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age-related wear and regular use. The burr wood handle retains its gloss but has some minor surface scuffs. The mottled cane shaft exhibits various abrasions, marking, and loss of original surface patina. The leather-bound grip on the spiral-carved stick shows compression and surface wear. General surface scratching, minor indentations, and darkening of the wood are present across the assortment.
