Description

A vintage crystal radio receiver component panel, dating from approximately the 1920s and attributed to the Telephone Manufacturing Company (T.M.C.), specifically resembling the Crystal Set No. 351 open model. The rectangular panel is crafted from a dark brown composition material, likely ebonite or an early phenolic resin. It features a central rotary aerial inductance tuning assembly with a brass pointer arm that sweeps over twenty-five brass contact studs arranged in a semi-circle. The central knob is inscribed with the words Aerial Tuning Inductance. Positioned below this dial is a horizontal brass crystal detector assembly, featuring a sliding adjustment rod and a cat’s whisker wire contact. The panel is fitted with four brass binding post terminals for external connections, marked with the letters T for Telephones, A for Aerial, and E for Earth. The rear of the panel shows the internal wiring connecting the studs to the central tuning mechanism.

Width: 13.8 cm

Height: 19.5 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in fair vintage condition, showing signs of age and use. The composition panel displays surface wear, scuffing, and some scratches. The brass components have developed a natural matured patina with areas of oxidation. There is significant finish loss and wear to the yellow-gold paint on the tuning pointer arm. One of the telephone terminals retains a remnant of original copper wiring. The assembly is offered in an untested condition, primarily as a historical or decorative collectible.
