Lot 31:
Description
A decorative figurine of an owl crafted from a gold-toned metal, likely gilt brass. The owl is depicted in a stylized standing pose on two tripod feet with prominent ear tufts. The body and head are extensively inset with numerous small, circular turquoise-coloured cabochons. The lower back and tail section are decorated with rectangular coral-coloured insets. The face features intricate scrolled wirework around large circular eyes and a pointed beak. The eyes are composed of white and black circular elements, possibly glass or enamel. This piece is in the style of mid-20th-century Asian decorative arts, often attributed to Chinese or Nepalese manufacture. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The figurine is in good vintage condition. The metalwork displays minor surface tarnish and wear to the gilt finish consistent with age. The majority of the inset stones are present, although there are some minor irregularities in the settings and evidence of small losses, particularly to the coral-coloured insets on the tail and lower body. The structural integrity is sound.
