Description

A lot comprising two navigational instruments: a military-style lensatic prismatic sighting compass and a boxed presentation compass. The military-style compass is constructed from metal with an olive drab green finish, featuring a hinged lid with a glass sighting window and vertical sighting wire. The interior includes a rotating bezel with an outer scale marked 1 to 36, an internal floating dial marked in degrees from 0 to 360, and cardinal points with a green north-seeking arrow. It is fitted with an integrated spirit bubble level and a fold-out sighting lens. The base features an inset conversion table with Roman numerals I to IV and map scales including 1:50000 and 1:25000. This instrument is supplied with a green canvas webbing pouch featuring a metal snap fastener. The presentation compass is set within a hinged, polished hardwood box with a circular green felt lining inside the lid. The compass itself is held in a silver-tone metal housing with a black dial displaying white cardinal and intercardinal points and a degree scale marked in 20-degree increments.

Condition report:

The military-style compass appears to be in good functional condition with the dial rotating freely and the bubble level intact; there is minor surface wear and dust consistent with age and field use. The presentation compass shows localized peeling and loss to the polished finish on the silver-tone metal rim. Both the wooden case and the canvas pouch are in good condition with minor surface scuffs to the wood.
