Lot 39:
Description
The lot comprises two awards including a French Medaille d’honneur du travail (Labour Medal of Honour) and a miniature insignia of an order of chivalry. The first is a silver-toned medal issued by the French Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The obverse depicts the profile bust of the French Republic facing left. The reverse features a central cartouche engraved C. KERDILES 1951, within a border inscribed MINISTERE DU TRAVAIL ET DE LA SECURITE SOCIALE. The design includes symbolic motifs such as an anchor, a caduceus, and cornucopiae. The medal is suspended from a tricolour ribbon in blue, white, and red. The second item is a miniature insignia attributed to the Cross of Merit of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (Pro Merito Melitensi). It features a white enamelled Maltese cross below a gold-toned crown, suspended from a red silk ribbon. The miniature is mounted on a black felt backing with a safety-pin fastener to the reverse.
Condition report:
The labour medal shows a dark, aged patina consistent with its age, and the ribbon exhibits light fraying to the edges and minor surface discolouration. The miniature cross appears in good condition with the enamel intact and no visible chips; the metalwork retains a strong gilt finish. The mounting and pin are secure and functional.
