Description
A dark-toned figurine depicting the reclining Maitreya (Laughing Buddha), likely carved from a heavy wood such as ebony or a similar dense composite material. The figure is shown in a relaxed pose, with one hand supporting the head and the other resting on the lap. The robes are detailed with incised floral and scrolling patterns. The flat base of the figure is hollowed to reveal a concealed erotic scene in relief, depicting two figures in an intimate pose. The object has a polished surface with a deep brown to black patina. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.

The figurine appears to be in good overall condition with some light surface wear and minor dust in the recessed areas, consistent with age and handling.
