Lot 43:
Description
A circular cast iron desk or paperweight dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The upper surface is decorated in raised relief with a Celtic cross design. The four recessed segments of the cross and the outer border feature a stippled or textured ground. A central integrated spherical knob serves as a handle for lifting. The item is finished with a dark brown to black aged patina. The underside is covered with a protective purple felt pad to prevent scratching surfaces. Faint cast-in numerals, possibly reading 1805, are visible in one of the textured quadrants of the design.
Diameter: 9 cm.
Condition report:
The paperweight is in good antique condition, showing signs of use and age appropriate for its period. The metal retains a dark patina with minor surface oxidation and rubbing on the higher points of the relief and along the outer rim. The purple felt pad on the base is intact but shows significant wear, fading, and accumulated dust.
