Description

An Italian hand-painted decorative figurine depicting a 19th-century British heavy cavalry officer, possibly of the Life Guards. The figure is crafted from painted bonded marble and is mounted on a rectangular black marble plinth with white and gold-toned veining. The soldier is wearing a traditional red tunic with cream-coloured facings and cross-belt, white breeches, and tall black jackboots. He is depicted wearing a crested helmet with a long, flowing horsehair plume and stands in a formal pose with hands resting on the hilt of a sabre in its scabbard. A gold-toned foil label is affixed to the side of the marble base. The style and construction are characteristic of mid-20th-century Italian military figurines, often attributed to the workshops of Bruno Merli or similar makers of bonded marble collectibles.

Condition report:

The figurine is in good vintage condition. There is noticeable paint loss on the black-finished sword scabbard, revealing the underlying material. Minor flecks of paint loss and rubbing are present on the red tunic, white facings, and the gold-toned finish of the helmet. The marble plinth shows minor shelf wear, and the red felt protective pad on the underside is worn at the corners. There are no visible cracks, chips, or major repairs to the figure or the marble base.
