Description

This collection comprises five navigational instruments of various periods and styles, accompanied by a commemorative token. Included are two Dalvey Voyager pocket compasses manufactured by Grants of Dalvey, Scotland. One example is housed in its original blue velvet-lined presentation box, which is marked inside the lid with the brand name Dalvey over Scotland. Both instruments feature circular mirror-polished stainless steel cases with a central brass-toned oval plaque. The lot includes a mid-20th-century US military hunter-cased pocket compass by Wittnauer, featuring a white dial with a blue-steeled needle and a 360-degree scale, with the reverse of the case stamped U.S. Also present is a brass-cased pocket sundial with a folding gnomon and engraved Roman numeral scales on the upper dial plate, and a small silver-tone open-face pocket compass with a white dial and fob ring. Completing the collection is a brass-toned circular medallion featuring a transfer-print image of the four members of The Beatles.

Dalvey presentation box: 11.4 cm width

Wittnauer compass diameter: 4.4 cm

Beatles medallion diameter: 3.8 cm.

Condition report:

The Dalvey items are in excellent condition with high-polish surfaces. The Wittnauer military compass shows moderate surface wear and light oxidation to the case consistent with age and field use. The brass sundial and smaller silver-tone pocket compass exhibit a natural aged patina. Compass needles appear to be responsive and functional. The Beatles medallion shows light surface marks.
