Lot 90:
Description
This is a three-draw portable terrestrial refracting telescope, model Britannic, produced by the London optical firm Broadhurst Clarkson and Co. The instrument is constructed with three sliding brass draws that feature a dark, aged patinated finish. The main objective barrel is encased in brown leather with visible longitudinal stitching. The first draw is stamped with the maker’s mark consisting of the word BRITANNIC within a hexagonal cartouche, followed by B C and CO, MADE IN ENGLAND, and the magnification power 15 X. The telescope is fitted with glass objective and eyepiece lenses.
Extended Length: Approximately 43 cm
Closed Length: Approximately 15 cm.
Condition report:
The telescope is in good vintage condition. The brass draws exhibit surface wear and age-related patination consistent with use. The leather binding is complete and secure, showing minor scuffing and signs of age. The lenses appear intact, though internal optical clarity and the mechanical smoothness of the sliding action have not been professionally tested. There are no protective end caps present.
