Description

This collection comprises various decorative storage containers and a maritime-themed shadow box. Featured are Japanese-style black lacquer jewellery boxes decorated with hand-painted and shell-inlaid landscape scenes featuring Mount Fuji, pagodas, and bridges. One rectangular wooden box exhibits geometric Yosegi-style marquetry. A framed maritime display contains several miniature rope knots and a central ship’s wheel, with identifying plaques for a Square Knot, Sheet Bend, Single Hitch, Fisherman’s Knot, Bowline, and Two Half Hitches. The group further includes a three-tiered jewellery chest with an embossed foliate pattern in a silver-tone finish, an Art Deco-style blonde wood box with inlaid interlocking rings on the lid, a hexagonal wooden box with a foliate-scroll inlay, and a black leatherette-covered box with a partitioned interior. Materials include wood, lacquer, metal, fabric, and composite materials.

Condition report:

Condition is mixed across the collection. The lacquer and wooden boxes show general surface wear, light scratching, and minor nicks consistent with age and use. The black leatherette-covered box exhibits significant scuffing, material loss, and visible wear to the exterior edges and corners. Internal fabric linings show some fading, light staining, and dust accumulation. The maritime shadow box frame has minor surface abrasions and dust behind the glass.
