Description

A pair of vintage Indian clubs, also known as exercise clubs or meels, crafted from turned wood. Traditionally utilised for gymnastic exercise and physical conditioning, each club features a characteristic tapered body that narrows to a slender neck and terminates in a rounded pommel handle. The clubs are decorated with hand-painted horizontal bands in red and green. A large stencilled black numeral 5 is centrally located on the barrel of each club, designating a weight of five pounds. The handle sections are further detailed with several thin incised concentric rings. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible on the items.

Height: approximately 21 inches.

Condition report:

Both clubs show significant signs of age and extensive historic use. There is widespread paint loss and chipping to the red and green bands, as well as the black stencilled numerals. The wooden surfaces exhibit numerous scuffs, abrasions, and small indentations consistent with regular exercise use. The structural integrity appears sound with no visible cracks or repairs.
