Description

A collection of decorative items and prints. The group includes a colour print on paper after L.S. Lowry (British, 1887-1976), titled The School Yard, depicting an urban industrial scene with numerous stylised figures. The work is signed L.S. Lowry and dated 1948 in the plate lower right, housed in a gilt-effect frame with a dark mount. Included is an engraved map titled PLAN OF ANCIENT ROME produced for M. Rollin’s Ancient History by Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon d’Anville (French, 1697-1782), featuring aged paper with visible fold lines and topographical details. The lot also contains a pair of oval miniature portraits of a King and Queen, possibly historical monarchs, mounted on green velvet in a light wood frame. Completing the collection is a circular glass plate collage, in the manner of Arman, featuring a large number of British copper and bronze-coloured coins of various denominations, including two pence and one penny pieces.

Lowry frame: 12.5 x 15.5 in.

Map frame: 10 x 13 in.

Miniature frame: 6.5 x 9.5 in.

Coin plate: 11.5 in. diameter.

Condition report:

The Lowry print is in good overall condition with minor scuffs to the frame. The map shows heavy foxing, toning throughout, and prominent creases and fold lines. The miniature portraits appear in good condition with minor dust accumulated under the glass. The coin collage shows heavy verdigris and oxidation to the copper-alloy coins, with visible adhesive marks and residue on the glass support.
