Lot 154:
Description
A large decorative sheet metal figure representing the Tin Woodsman character from The Wizard of Oz, attributed to the manufacturer Bits and Pieces. The sculpture is constructed from various cylindrical and conical metal components, featuring a vertical row of faux rivets down the centre of the torso and a pink-painted heart applied to the left breast. The figure holds a metal axe in its right hand and is designed with splayed wire fingers. The entire piece is finished in a grey paint intended to mimic a weathered metallic patina. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the figure or its base.
Height: 60 cm. No Postage available on this item
Condition report:
The statue is in a heavily weathered condition consistent with outdoor display. There is extensive flaking, peeling, and loss of the grey paint finish across all surfaces. Significant surface oxidation and rust are evident, particularly on the reverse side and the lower portions of the legs. The structural integrity of the metal components appears sound.
