Description
Produced by Achatit-Werkstätten, West Germany, the first item is a wall-hanging plaque from the mid-20th century. It depicts the stylised head of a youth with a serene expression and closed eyes. The piece is manufactured from Achatit, a composite material of stone powder and resin, with a polished dark brown finish designed to resemble carved wood. The reverse displays an impressed ACHATIT mark, a yellow and green ACHATIT brand label, and a white label printed with HANDARBEIT / HANDIWORK / MADE IN GERMANY – COPYRIGHT. The second item is a turned wood darning mushroom with a broad, rounded head in a dark grained wood and a separate handle in a lighter blonde wood. No markings are visible on the wooden item.
Achatit plaque length: approx 15 cm
Darning mushroom length: approx 22 cm.
Condition report:
The wall plaque is in good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. The wooden darning mushroom shows signs of functional use, with some wear and thinning to the finish on the top of the head.
