Lot 20:
Description
A pair of miniature or child-sized traditional clogs, representative of industrial footwear from Northern England. Each clog is constructed with dark brown leather uppers featuring decorative incised linear patterns and punched-hole broguing details. The leather is secured to the carved wooden soles by a perimeter row of brass-toned metal studs. The design includes a single cross-strap over the instep, which fastens with a small black button. The undersides of the wooden soles are reinforced with metal clog irons at the heel and toe, a functional detail characteristic of full-sized working clogs from the Lancashire region. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the items.
Each clog measures approximately 3.5 inches (9 cm) in length.
Condition report:
The items show signs of age-related wear consistent with their period. The leather is dry and displays surface cracking, particularly around the ankle and strap areas. There is a presence of green oxidation (verdigris) on many of the metal studs. The metal irons on the soles show surface rust and wear.
