Lot 156:
Description
A varied lot comprising several gaming sets and a mechanical kit. Included is an unassembled Marble Machine #2 (Motorised) kit from the Mechanical Art & Design (MA) Museum, constructed from laser-cut MDF and plywood. The lot features a travel gaming set housed in a brown zippered synthetic case with a backgammon board and a foam-lined tray containing wooden Staunton-pattern chess pieces, checkers, and dice. Also present is a set of WHSmith Chessmen De Luxe Quality in their original red cardboard box, marked as made in India. A vintage promotional box for Franklyn’s Cutty Shagg tobacco contains a set of dominoes. The collection is further supplemented by a wooden cribbage board with a decorative brass top plate, a small folding hardwood peg-in travel chess set, and a large inlaid wooden chessboard which serves as the base for the lot. Miscellaneous accessories include a large decorative King of Hearts playing card and a bag of loose gaming counters.
Condition report:
The collection ranges from unused to vintage used condition. The Marble Machine kit is boxed and appears unassembled. The zippered travel case and interior foam are well-preserved. Cardboard boxes for the dominoes and WHSmith chessmen show scuffing, edge wear, and age-related toning. The wooden and brass components show minor surface wear and natural patination consistent with age and handling.
