Lot 181:
Description
This lot consists of an assortment of antique and vintage woodworking hand tools, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The collection includes several chisels and gouges with various hardwood handles, ranging in style from smooth-turned to hexagonal. One hexagonal handle features the impressed maker mark T. HARGREAVES. The tool shafts and blades are constructed from steel. Also included is a large wooden mallet with a rectangular head retaining remnants of weathered orange paint. A long, thin metal-tipped tool, potentially a scribe or awl, is also present. The tools are contained within a cardboard box.
Condition report:
The items are in well-used, as-found condition. The steel components show surface oxidation and pitting throughout. The wooden handles exhibit wear, staining, and minor cracking consistent with age and practical workshop use. The mallet head shows heavy wear and loss to its painted finish. The tools are sold as a mixed workshop lot; individual blades will require regrinding and honing for use.
