Description
A collection of four medals encompassing service in World War I and World War II, along with civilian police service. The collection comprises the following awards:
A 1939-1945 Star, being a six-pointed zinc alloy star. The obverse features the royal cypher GRI VI surmounted by a crown, within a circlet inscribed THE 1939-1945 STAR. The ribbon consists of three vertical stripes of dark blue, red, and light blue.
An Italy Star, being a six-pointed zinc alloy star. The obverse features the royal cypher GRI VI surmounted by a crown, within a circlet inscribed THE ITALY STAR. The ribbon consists of five vertical stripes of red, white, green, white, and red.
A Special Constabulary Faithful Service Medal, George V issue. The obverse features the effigy of King George V with the legend GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:. The reverse is inscribed FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE SPECIAL CONSTABVLARY within a laurel spray. The ribbon features a red centre flanked by white stripes and black borders.
A British War Medal 1914-1918, struck in silver. The obverse features the effigy of King George V with the legend GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:. The reverse depicts St. George on horseback trampling an eagle shield, dated 1914 and 1918. The ribbon features a broad orange centre with stripes of white, black, and blue at the edges.
Condition report:
The medals show varying degrees of wear and age-related surface change. The zinc alloy stars show typical surface darkening. The silver British War Medal is heavily tarnished. The bronze Special Constabulary medal shows heavy surface patina and oxidation. The ribbons show significant wear; the Italy Star and Special Constabulary ribbons are frayed, and the British War Medal ribbon is in poor condition, being extremely shredded and frayed at the top. The 1939-1945 Star ribbon remains in good condition with only light wear.
